Our Holistic Systems Approach® Process

We take an analytical, process-driven approach in consulting with our clients, utilizing our four-step process.

Our focus is to work in collaboration with you to identify the right metrics, analyze information, and translate data into decisions that positively impact teaching and learning. It’s at the heart of what we do at CAAC.

Our Holistic Systems Approach® 4 Step Process:

Step 1: Discern Organizational Health
Through the lens of understanding and reflection, the process begins with a comprehensive dive into the district’s data, focusing on metrics aligned with the state’s accountability dashboard. We will also review district goals, local priorities, and Board goals. In California, the Local Control and Accountability Plan will be reviewed.

We will then implement our unique organizational health review. The review takes a holistic systems view of the district, combining perspectives from the district and the community. This thorough process will inventory the district’s approach to education based on central office, school site, and community metrics. You’ll gain insights related to culture, relationships, structures, and implementation so you can understand what changes are needed.

The Board will receive an impartial report of the district, as well as baseline data and metrics to monitor progress moving forward. For clarity, the data will be translated into user-friendly formats for both educators and non-educators. We help you create baseline elements metrics to measure progress toward Board and district-wide goals.

Step 2: Set Strategic Goals
We will support the Board in identifying 3 strategic goals with corresponding metrics to glean the qualifications needed for a superintendent to succeed now and in the future. Your new strategic goals will act as a call to action for constituents and partners to get engaged and bolster the work of the district. Setting strategic Board goals will help if a new superintendent search process is required.

Step 3: Support the Board and Superintendent or Superintendent Search
We support the Board and superintendent in driving organizational change. We will also develop Board capacity to lead a superintendent search, if needed. We will assist Board members in creating an objective interview process that includes performance tasks. You will align the process with district goals that identify the candidates’ qualifications, as well as equity and access beliefs and practices. The interview process provides the foundation for on-boarding, evaluating, and providing ongoing support to the new superintendent.

Step 4: Measure Progress (Cycles of Inquiry)
We will provide continuous systematic Board support to measure progress toward goals through on-going cycles of inquiry and stakeholder feedback loops. An end of the year review is used to identify targets for the following year. This process can also support performance management of executive leadership.
